The Overview
One of the unique things about Nootroo is its two distinct formulations: one contains gold, and the other silver flakes, and they’re meant to be taken on alternating days. The formulas are essentially the same, except for the featured ingredient: noopept for gold and phenylpiracetam for silver.
While the ingredients in these stacks are well-researched and known give a cognitive boost, increase in brain activity, and improved memory, there is no information available on the amounts of each ingredient in Nootroo’s proprietary blend. That lack of transparency can make us skeptical of a product, so we gave this to our testers to see if the unknown sum of its well-researched parts makes a good enough nootropic.
The Ingredients
Active Ingredients:
Gold Capsules:
Proprietary Blend – 675 mg (individual ingredient quantities are not listed.)
Edible 23.5k Gold Flakes
Originally studied for its use in fighting cognitive decline, Noopept is now linked to powerful nootropic effects. Its effect is similar to Piracetam, a long-time preferred ingredient for nootropic/brain supplement pioneers. However, a much lower dosage of Noopept is needed to achieve the same cognitive boost — up to 1000 times less, in fact. Both Noopept and Piracetam have been shown to be well-tolerated by users with a generally low risk of side effects.(As always, it’s a good idea to consult with your doctor before starting a new supplement regime. )
Noopept metabolizes very quickly, within 25 minutes or less after oral ingestion, and it has a potentially cumulative effect, meaning it gets more effective after repeated use.
Noopept also provides a neuroprotective effect when supplemented, potentially protecting against oxidative damage/stress and some physical traumas.
We liked this ingredient a lot in Lumonol, one of the fastest-acting nootropics we’ve ever tested.
Silver Capsules:
Proprietary Blend – 675 mg (individual ingredient quantities are not listed)
Edible 100% Silver Flakes
Phenylpiracetam
Phenylpiracetam is a lot stronger than Piracetam — between 30-60 times, in fact. There is evidence-based clinical investigation showing the effectiveness of Phenylpiracetam to treat a number of Central Nervous System disorders, including disintegrating cognition and memory. Both Phenylpiracetam and Piracetam have been shown to be well-tolerated by users with a generally low risk of side effects. *As always, it’s a good idea to consult with your doctor before starting a new supplement regime.
BOTH CAPSULES
Cognizin® (Citilcholine)
Choline is a vital compound in neurotransmission, and research suggests many Americans don’t get enough from their regular diets. (In fact, choline-based nootropics are increasingly common, and some of our testers have experienced enhanced memory and focus simply from supplementing choline.)
Suntheanine® (L-Theanine)
An amino acid that’s becoming an increasingly common ingredient in nootropics, l-theanine promotes relaxation without being a sedative, and research suggests it also helps the brain deal better with stress. Often paired with caffeine, l-theanine’s effects appear complementary to the world’s most popular stimulant. It may also increase brain activity and memory. L-theanine is commonly found in green tea, and a standard cup contains around 20 mg.
PURENERGY™ (Caffeine)
The world’s most popular stimulant, caffeine actually works by preventing adenosine from acting on adenosine receptors in the brain. This inhibitory mechanism reduces feelings of drowsiness and sedation. Caffeine is a well-researched, well-known, and common ingredient in many brain supplements — and a big reason coffee is one of the world’s most in-demand commodities. Research suggests caffeine and l-theanine pairings boost alertness and cognitive performance.
Other Ingredients:
Both the gold and silver flakes are inert and elp to differentiate between the pills without using artificial colors.
Usage Guidelines
Nootroo should be taken in the morning, on an empty stomach, immediately upon waking. If taken with food, it will take additional time until effects can be felt.
Take one capsule per day, alternating between gold and silver formulas.
Two pills can be taken in a day, but not at the same time. It is best to wait 4-8 hours between dosing, and they should still be alternated. Do not exceed 3 pills in 24 hours.
What Our Testers Say
“Not one to part with my morning coffee, I took a Nootroo in addition to my regular morning cup. I felt a bit of clarity and sharpness, but that boost was gone by lunch time. I followed the alternating capsule regime closely, and when I didn’t feel much of a boost on alternate days, I alternated one in the morning and one in the afternoon. While I did feel alert and focused, there was also a bit of jitteriness.” — Alexandra
“As suspected, this Nootroo made me way too jittery and restless and I had to stop testing it after only a couple of days. I felt antsy, and there was a definite crash after 4-6 hours of taking it.” — Chad
“I took this for a first time on a morning with early meetings and no time to grab a cup of coffee. I did enjoy the caffeine and theanine combo, as it seemed to help me recall some on-the-spot info for the meeting, but the effects were gone by late morning.” — Wesley
“I tested this out for a couple of weeks and while I felt focused and clear-headed, the effect only lasted a couple of hours. This supplement didn’t give me a long-lasting boost at all.” — Ming
BrainWiz Tips
- Nootroo contains caffeine, and although the amount is not listed, it is enough to cause jitteriness in people with caffeine sensitivity, especially if taken alongside coffee.
- Except for the occasional jitteriness, our testers experienced no negative side effects from this supplement. But as with any supplement or nutritional regimen, you should talk to your doctor or medical professional before use.
- Take just before eating to take advantage of an active digestive system and promote absorption.
- Our testers felt diminishing effects after roughly a week of taking Nootroo. After a few days off from the supplement, taking one or more capsules of Neurofuse once again produced a good rush of energy. Given the cumulative effects of Noopept, we suggest taking Nootroo in cycles of 1 week on, 2 days off for the best results.
- As with any supplement or nutritional regimen, you should talk to your doctor or medical professional before use.
Supplement Summary
Nootroo contains caffeine, so users should be aware when adding Nootroo to their morning routine; it made some of our testers feel jittery. In addition to a cognitive boost and improved focus, some of our testers feel increased physical energy.
The idea of alternating formulations had us excited to try Nootroo at first, but the boost we felt rarely if ever lasted beyond the morning, even with continued use. Combined with some jitteriness, the short timeframe of effectiveness gave us a less-than-stellar impression of Nootroo, and supplements like Neurofuse and Lumonol (which also contains noopept, but in a much more effective overall package) gave similar positives with far fewer negatives. Whatever the dosages are in Nootroo’s proprietary blend, they simply didn’t work that well for us.
